This five-dimensional campaign showcased how Federal and Confederate leaders used psychological warfare, intelligence / counterintelligence along with traditional calvary, naval and ground operations ending with the “Bottling-Up” of Major General Benjamin Butler’s Federal Army of the James and the maintaining Richmond in Confederate hands.
