SUMMARY:County Museum: “FORGOTTEN PATRIOTS” Virginia’s Black Soldiers of the American Revolution 1775-1783
DESCRIPTION:From the beginning of the American Revolution in 1775\, hundreds if not thousands of “men of color” mustered with their county militias and several hundred of these men chose to enlist in Continental Army regiments. They were involved in almost every major battle in the conflict\, including being at the Siege of Yorktown\, VA in 1781. They were a portion of the victory that birthed our nation. Sometimes forgotten or overlooked\, these men did serve side by side with other White Virginians and both swore U.S. Pension depositions for each other well after the war was over. They were our founders\, too. This program will illuminate who they were and what their contributions were in our independence from England. The speaker will be John Pagano\, Chesterfield Historic Sites Interpretation Supervisor. \nFree to the public\, though please register via the Parks and Recreation Webpage linked here \n11 am at Chesterfield County Musuem \n6813 Mimms Loop\, Chesterfield
