DESCRIPTION:Thomas Jefferson is often referred to as “the pen of the Revolution” for writing the Declaration of Independence. Of all his accomplishments\, most Americans today associate Jefferson first and foremost as the author of our nation’s founding document. However\, at the time\, Jefferson himself was displeased with the final draft of the Declaration that the Continental Congress approved and distanced himself from his own work. Historical interpreter Marc Holma will portray Mr. Jefferson and will discuss the authorship of the Declaration of Independence and how it came about.

DESCRIPTION:In all\, the US Military Railroad supplied more than 100\,000 Union troops and more than 65\,000 horses and mules with food\, equipment\, and supplies from the waterfront docks on the navigable portion of the James River at City Point\, Virginia. Former Chief Historian of Petersburg National Battlefield\, James H. SUMMARY:Shot Heard Round the World - Rev War 250th Event
DESCRIPTION:Join us nearly 250 years to the day after news of the Battle of Lexington and Concord broke to locals in the Virginia Gazette. This free event will feature a reenactment of how citizens of Chesterfield County responded to this historic news. Colonial activities will fill the grounds of Historic Eppington\, the home of Francis Eppes VI\, brother-in-law to Thomas Jefferson. Throughout the day enjoy living history interpreters and demonstrations including a blacksmith\, craftsmen\, and colonial music. At scheduled times\, gather and watch an artillery demonstration. There will be a recreation of the Chesterfield County militia training on the grounds and preparing for the impending conflict. \nRegister HERE
